Second hadal-depth rated respirometer lander arrives at SAMS

The second hadal-rated benthic respirometer lander arrived at SAMS in May 2026 and spent the rest of May and June being tested. The lander, named “Kaia”, has O2, pH, turbidity, pressure, conductivity, and H2 sensors onboard and a Niskin rosette system for sampling water at preset depths during the decent.
